The new HVAC unit for the Coors Fitness Center is being installed beginning on May 6. As this unit is located above racquetball court 1 and has the ability to directly impact the squash court, all activity in the squash court will be unavailable to prevent accidents and ensure participant safety.

At this time, we do not anticipate racquetball court 2 to be impacted. As a reminder, you may reserve racquetball court 2 up to 48 hours in advance of your booking time by calling the Coors Fitness Center front desk at 303-871-3845.

JUNE 2 UPDATE: The HVAC unit has been installed and is powered on. We are expecting that the required inspection and approval of the unit by the City of Denver happens on Wednesday, June 2. Following the approval of the unit, we will be conditioning and balancing temperatures in the fitness center back down to normal. As returning to normal temperatures is not an overnight fix, this may take a few days and we expect to be completely back to normal temperatures within a week’s time.

We recognize that the loss of temperature control has caused some concern, frustration and discomfort. Thank you for your continued patience during this project, and we apologize for the inconvenience it has caused.

Please know that we have been diligently monitoring the temperatures in the fitness center and are abiding by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Health/Fitness Facility Standards and Guidelines, specific for indoor temperatures zones. Typically, the Coors Fitness Center operates at an indoor temperature of 72 degrees. Due to the loss of temperature control in the past few weeks with the project, the average temperature in the facility has been between 75 to 78 degrees and 27 to 51% humidity. This temperature and humidity threshold is still below the cautionary temperature mark (80 degrees) established by ACSM for indoor temperature zone guidelines.

We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank you for your continued patience. Please direct any questions about this project to Jake de la Torre at jake.delatorre@du.edu or 303-871-7689.
