Spotlight on Sochi: Alpine Skiing

Fun Facts

  • Ten events make up the alpine skiing program, five for men and five for ladies. These include the downhill, slalom, giant slalom, super giant and super combined races. Different courses are prepared for the different events.
  • Alpine skiing first became part of the program in 1936 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.
  • It was not until the Calgary in 1988 that the super giant slalom was added to the alpine skiing program.

Skiing isn’t just legs, and Mikaela shares tips for how she mastered the pull-up.

Pull-Ups

Start with assisted pull-ups (using a band), doing as many as you can and working until you can do 30.

Move toward smaller bands, eventually working toward doing them unassisted.

Aim to do 3 sets of 3 reps, then increasing the number of reps as your strength increases.
