Connect with other University of Denver students and learn how to be engaged on campus during Discoveries Week and beyond at the Ritchie Center!
DU students can connect with other students on campus with the Ritchie Center’s student programs: Club Sports, Intramural Sports and the Alpine Club.
DU is home to 32 Club Sports teams, providing students with opportunities to compete locally, regionally or nationally. Teams for the 2017-18 school year include:
- Ice Hockey
- Ultimate Frisbee

Some Club Sports teams hold tryouts in September. Visit the Club Sports team pages to learn more about tryouts and how to get involved with a Club Sports team.
Intramural Sports offer DU students on-campus sports competition each quarter. Participants compete on teams, in duos or individually in open or co-rec leagues. Additionally, special events and tournaments are hosted each quarter.
Fall Quarter 2017 leagues include:
- 7v7 Soccer
- 4v4 Volleyball
- 3v3 Basketball
- 7v7 Flag Football
- Tennis (singles and doubles)
Fall Quarter 2017 tournaments include:
- Rock, Paper, Scissors
Registration for fall Intramural Sports leagues and tournaments is open September 11-26.
Alpine Club is DU’s largest student-run club, featuring more than 200 members. The club hosts more than 25 trips throughout the school year with various opportunities to explore the Rocky Mountains and outdoors in and around Colorado.
Trips scheduled for Fall Quarter 2017 include:
- Freshman Day Climb (introductory trip for freshmen only)
- 14er Hikes
- Aspen Backpacking
- Steamboat Multisport
- Wilderness First Aid
- Rocky Mountain National Park Day Hike
- Beginner Day Bike
- Woodward at Copper
Alpine Club will host its annual kickoff meeting on Wednesday, September 13, at 8:00 p.m. in Davis Auditorium (Sturm Hall). Weekly meetings to discuss upcoming trips are held on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. in Lindsay Auditorium (Sturm 281).
Coors Fitness Center
The Coors Fitness Center is located on the south side of the Ritchie Center, providing students with a sports and wellness experience during their time at DU.
Full-time DU students (undergraduates: 12 credit hours; graduate students: 8 credit hours) receive access to the Coors Fitness Center for free. Part-time students can purchase a membership for $25-40/month.
The Coors Fitness Center is open during the following hours:
Monday – Thursday: 5:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Friday: 5:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Saturday: 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Sunday: 6:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Discoveries Week Events
Start off the school year by getting involved on campus. Learn more about activities and opportunities open to students this year at the following events during Discoveries Week beginning September 4.
Tuesday, September 5, at 8:15 p.m.
The Pioneer Pep Rally is hosted in Magness Arena, and new DU students and their parents are invited to attend. Meet some of the DU Pioneers student-athletes and coaches, learn campus traditions and get excited for the upcoming season.
Wednesday, September 6, at 8:00 p.m.
Immediately following the Pep Rally, students can meet Club Sports teams and the Alpine Club, learn about Intramural Sports and take part in numerous activities throughout the night. Activities include soccer, Ultimate frisbee, climbing, wallyball, broomball and more. The first 150 students to complete their activity card will receive a free Reg Night tank top.
Saturday, September 9, at 2:00 p.m.
Learn how to get involved on campus during the Pioneer Carnival in the courtyard on the south side of the Ritchie Center. Teams and organizations will host tables and booths, including DU’s Club Sports teams, Intramural Sports, the Alpine Club and more.
