School Days Off

Registration for School Days Off is now open. We recommend you view the registration tutorial before you register online. Advanced registration is required, and daily drop-ins are no longer available.
School Days Off is a sports day camp offered on days when most local schools are out of session.

At School Days Off, campers participate in a variety of sports activities, including:

  • rock climbing
  • ice skating
  • field house sports

Pioneer All-Stars

New for 2017-18: Improve your sports skills and win prizes from DU Athletics & Recreation with the FREE Pioneer All-Stars program during 2017-18 School Days Off and 2018 P.A.S.S. Camp. All participants at School Days Off and P.A.S.S. Camp are automatically enrolled in the program.

When your child completes the tasks for each sport, they are awarded a medal in that sport. As they earn medals, they will win prizes and can be entered to win the Ultimate DU Fan Experience if they complete all 14 medals.

All participants will receive a Medal Tracker. Each time they complete a medal, they will be presented with a sticker to place in their Medal Tracker.

Basketball Medal

Basketball Medal Requirements

To earn the Pioneer All-Stars medal in basketball, participants must:

  • Participate in the whole basketball session during School Days Off or P.A.S.S. Camp and follow the rules
  • Demonstrate sportsmanship and teamwork
  • Dribble the ball with control
  • Dribble with alternating hands
  • Shoot a lay-up and free throw (ages 5-8 can use the mini hoop)

Participants can earn their basketball medal on the following dates:

P.A.S.S. Camp

  • Week 1 (May 29 – June 1)
If participants complete the basketball medal by January 5, they win a ticket to a DU Men’s Basketball game.

Climbing Wall Medal

Climbing Wall Medal Requirements

To earn the Pioneer All-Stars medal at the climbing wall, participants must:

  • Participate and follow the rules at the climbing wall during School Days Off or P.A.S.S. Camp
  • Climb successfully to the top of one of the routes (ages 5-7) or three of the routes (ages 8-11), each in three minutes or less
  • Demonstrate the climbing commands
  • Boulder the age-appropriate route
  • Walk across the slackline without help

Golf Medal

Golf Medal Requirements

To earn the Pioneer All-Stars medal in golf, participants must:

  • Participate and follow the rules during the golf session during School Days Off or P.A.S.S. Camp
  • Properly demonstrate a golf swing
  • Hit the ball on the first try at least five different times
  • Demonstrate safety precautions when waiting for their turn
  • Learn the rules of golf and how to win the game

Gymnastics Medal

Gymnastics Medal Requirements

To earn the Pioneer All-Stars medal in gymnastics, participants must:

  • Participate and follow the rules during the gymnastics session at School Days Off or P.A.S.S. Camp
  • Demonstrate a cartwheel
  • Jump into the foam pit
  • Demonstrate front tumbling
  • Walk across the balance beam without falling off

Participants can earn their gymnastics medal on the following dates:

Hockey Medal Requirements

To earn the Pioneer All-Stars medal in hockey, participants must:

  • Participate and follow the rules during the hockey session at School Days Off or P.A.S.S. Camp
  • Skate in and out of cones with a hockey stick
  • Score a goal
  • Show good sportsmanship
  • Demonstrate puck handling

Ice Skating Medal

Ice Skating Medal Requirements

To earn the Pioneer All-Stars medal in ice skating, participants must:

  • Participate and follow the rules during the ice skating session at School Days Off or P.A.S.S. Camp
  • Skate in and out of cones
  • Try to skate on their own without a skate aid for five minutes
  • Skate backwards for five meters (ages 5-7 can use the skate aid)
  • Demonstrate a snowplow stop

Lacrosse Medal Requirements

To earn the Pioneer All-Stars medal in lacrosse, participants must:

  • Participate and follow the rules during the lacrosse session at School Days Off or P.A.S.S. Camp
  • Demonstrate a cradle
  • Demonstrate a scoop
  • Shoot into the net
  • Demonstrate catching and passing with a coach or teammate

  • Demonstrate passing skills
  • Score a goal

To earn the Pioneer All-Stars medal in tennis, participants must:

  • Participate and follow the rules during the tennis session at School Days Off or P.A.S.S. Camp
  • Hit the ball over the net
  • Complete a backhand swing
  • Show good sportsmanship
  • Learn how to keep score at a match

  • Demonstrate a bump, a set and a spike

Getting Started Medal Requirements

When all participants begin the Pioneer All-Stars Program, they automatically receive the Getting Started medal and sticker for their Medal Tracker.

Camper's Choice Medal

Camper’s Choice Medal Requirements

To earn the Pioneer All-Stars medal for Camper’s Choice, participants must:

  • Choose a game or activity that isn’t already part of a Pioneer All-Stars medal
  • Explain the rules of the game or activity
  • Demonstrate how to play the game or do the activity
  • Play the game or do the activity with a group of friends
  • Teach friends or family how to play the game or do the activity

Camp Favorites Medal

Camp Favorites Medal Requirements

To earn the Pioneer All-Stars medal for Camp Favorites, participants must:

  • Choose one of the Pioneer All-Stars sports medals that they have already completed
  • Fulfill the requirements for that medal a second time

Cost

First child: $60/day

Lunch: $6/day

Early or late care: $5/session

Coors Fitness Center members, DU faculty/staff, DU students and DU alumni receive a 10% discount. Please call 303-871-3908 to confirm your DU affiliation prior to your first enrollment.

Registration

We recommend following the School Days Off tutorial when you Register online for School Days Off.

Any registrations received within 48 hours of a School Days Off session are subject to a $10 late fee.

Please note that registration closes 24 hours prior to a School Days Off session, and daily drop-ins are no longer available.

Immunization & Medical Administration Records

All participants must have a current immunization record on file before participating in School Days Off. If you would like to confirm that your child’s immunization record is on file, please call 303-871-3908.

If your child will require medication while at School Days Off, please complete our medication administration form.

If your child has asthma, please complete our asthma care plan.

If your child may require use of an epi pen, please complete our allergy/anaphylaxis action plan.

Submit all medication, asthma and allergy/anaphylaxis forms to the Youth Programs office at youthprograms@du.edu. Forms may be submitted before camp or to the School Days Off front desk during check-in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my child on the day of a School Days Off session without pre-registering?

No. To ensure the quality of the program and staffing ratios, daily drop-in is no longer available.

Can I get a refund if I cancel my child's enrollment

Cancellations must be received 48 hours in advance and are subject to a 10 percent processing fee. Please call 303-871-3908 to cancel a School Days Off registration.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, checks and all major credit cards. Please make checks payable to the University of Denver.

What forms do I need to complete to enroll my child?

A completed registration form and current immunization record must be on file for each camper before his/her first day of School Days Off.

Forms must have original signatures. If you fax your registration form, you must initial next to each of your signatures when you arrive at School Days Off.

What if my child is sick and cannot attend?

You may call the Youth Activities Manager at 303-871-3908 and inform him of your child’s absence from School Days Off. If a doctor’s note is provided, you will be credited for your child’s canceled enrollment.

What are the standard hours for School Days Off?

Standard program hours are 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Do you offer early or late care? What is the cost of the extra hours?

Early care is available from 7:30 – 8 a.m. for $5 a day.

Late care is available from 5:30 – 6 p.m. for $5 a day.

Where do I drop off/pick up my child?

Check-in and check-out is located in Gates Field House. Parking is available in Lot T (located under the tennis courts on Asbury Ave.) and requires a permit. Parking permits will be emailed to School Days Off participants.

Directions from University Blvd.: 1. Turn west on to Asbury Ave. 2. Continue past the Ritchie Center and the fire lane/crosswalk. 3. Turn right into the parking lot located under the tennis courts (Lot T).

From the parking lot, you will walk up a brick path to the Ritchie Center and enter Gates Field House through the west doors.

Staff will be on site to assist with parking.

Does my child need to bring any extra clothing?

We recommend you send your child with a swimsuit and towel, sweatshirt or light jacket, as well as an extra change of clothes.

Is equipment provided?

Yes. School Days Off provides all equipment for each of our sports activities, except for helmets. A good-fitting helmet is required for participants ages 8 and under, and recommended for everyone.

What certifications do School Days Off staff hold?

All School Days Off staff hold CPR, AED, first aid and concussion certifications.

Have School Days Off staff members gone through background checks?

Yes. All staff members undergo a criminal background check before working in the program.

What is the staff-to-participant ratio?

School Days Off provides a 1:15 or better staff to camper ratio at all times.
