The University of Denver is finalizing the last step in its solar panel project. More than 7,000 solar panels were installed this summer across 18 different buildings on campus, which will account for between seven and eight percent of DU's energy consumption. Initially the goal was to produce five percent of DU's energy with the solar panel installation, so surpassing this goal further advances the University's commitment to renewable energy and sustainability. The Ritchie Center, in particular, is the top producer of renewable energy at DU, providing 35 percent of the total renewable energy produced on campus.
Onsite renewable energy at the Ritchie Center is a huge commitment for DU Athletics & Recreation, promoting sustainability practice while reducing DU's carbon footprint. Energy efficiency efforts, zero waste accomplishments and now energy production make the Division of Athletics & Recreation a leader in the field and a great campus sustainability partner.
