Hilltoppers swimmer Emma Weber will represent the U.S. at two international swim meets in October 2021 after USA Swimming selected her for the third and fourth legs of the 2021 FINA Swimming World Cup.
Weber will swim in the 100 breaststroke in Berlin, Germany, on October 1-3, 2021; and in Budapest, Hungary, on October 7-9.
USA Swimming selected 43 swimmers ages 18 and under based on their results at U.S. Olympic Trials in June. Weber advanced to the semifinal round of the 100 breaststroke and finished 12th overall. She is one of just 18 swimmers selected for the World Cup competitions who swam in the semifinals or beyond at Olympic Trials.
"In light of the cancellation of the World Junior Championships in 2021, we chose to move forward with an international opportunity for our young U.S. swimmers to provide them with valuable training and racing experiences which we feel are critical to success on the international stage," USA Swimming Managing Director of the National Team Lindsay Mintenko said. "Our junior athletes are an important conduit to our Olympic Team and, as an organization, we have been focused on pursuing and developing additional competitive racing opportunities for these 18&Under swimmers."
